My name is Doris Pearson and I have been the Colorado Local Area Representative (LAR) with Go Au Pair since 2001.
I moved from Nebraska 42 years ago. I’ve lived in Denver with my husband of 33 years and have 2 daughters. I worked at a Bank for over 20 years and retired to spend more time with my daughters. I started working with Go Au Pair and at the same time a school 3 days a week in the Kindergarten class. I found it to be flexible and a perfect job/balance for my family. After 20 years of service with the school I’ve retired, but continue to work as a LAR with Go Au Pair. In my free time I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and friends, reading, playing tennis, snow skiing and water sports.
My cluster is growing here in Denver and the surrounding areas. I’ve experienced first-hand with my own children and working at a school the shortcomings of child care centers, home day cares and nannies. I truly believe in the au pair program and what they can offer families. I am the closest point of contact for both the Host Families, as well as Au Pairs and I’m here to provide local support to both through the entire length of placement.
Our current Colorado Au Pairs are from Ecuador, Ghana, Colombia, Germany and El Salvador. They enjoy our family friendly community and look forward to experiencing the great outdoors, hiking, Red Rocks, Colorado Rocky mountains, art and music festivals. Our Colorado Host Families have little babies all the way up to early teens and they work in all kind of professions. We currently have Colorado host parents in healthcare, education, marketing, real estate, sales, finance, accounting, legal, IT and marketing.
Au Pair Cultural Activities
Au Pairs are required to attend a number of Cultural Activities with their Local Area Representative and nearby Au Pairs to make sure they experience the local community and culture during their stay. Below are some of the activities Doris’s cluster has been up to recently!
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an open-air amphitheatre built into a rock structure in the western United States, near Morrison, Colorado, ten miles west of Denver. We meet at the park, hike, explore red rocks and its stunning scenery. We view the Visitor Center learning how it was established and all the different events that take place. Concerts, Yoga, Film on the Rocks, Snowshape Fitness
Pindustry at Greenwood Village is a multi-level entertainment venue. We can do endless things. We meet up on the massive Sky Deck with views that include Pikes Peak and the whole Front Range, social, eat, and play variety games: Jenga, darts, bowling, pinball machines, arcade games and many more. This event we bowled.
This is a favorite! We have brunch and do a fun gift exchange with the Au Pair group. Everyone brings a favorite dish from their home country to share and a wrapped $10 gift. We chat, eat and get to know each other, by learning about the Au Pairs families, host families, everyone’s interest and what they have been experiencing while here in Colorado. Then the Au Pairs draw numbers to pick a gift from the pile or steal someone else’s. Everyone leaves with a fun gift and enjoys celebrating together the start of the holiday season!
