Chinese Au Pair Says Goodbye to Her Host Family

Dear Suyi, Eric, Sophia, and Alex,

Time passes so fast. It’s time to say goodbye. Thank you for taking care of me this year. I have to say I had a wonderful and fantastic year in America which broadened my eyesight and colored my experience.

Also, thank you for taking me to so many places and enjoying a variety of delicious food from all over the world. I still remember when I first arrived in the United States, my oral English was not very good and I had no new friends. It was you who encouraged me to take part in activities, meet new friends and take language classes at community colleges. Every day when we eat dinner, you will ask me how my class is today. If I make any new friends. When I’m sick and uncomfortable, you’ll buy me medicine and let me rest. When I want to travel, you will recommend places to me and tell me where to have fun and where to eat good food. At Christmas, you also prepared many gifts for me and gave me a week’s vacation to Mexico. It also makes me experience the cultural differences between different countries.

You Were So Thoughtful…

During the Chinese New Year, you also deliberately gave me two days off to celebrate the New Year with my friends and give me lucky money. In addition, on Thanksgiving Day, you took me to Salt Lake City, Utah for a vacation. You asked my coach to teach me how to ski. That was the first time in my life. Because of you all, I was not nervous, but learned from my coach and enjoyed the vacation. I also know your big family.

They are very kind to me and take good care of me. Because of you all, I feel like I have a second home in the world which filled with love and happiness. I am also grateful to the kids who always treat me like a big sister and sharing all interesting thing with me. Sometimes the children would argue with me a little, but when they calmed down, they knew I was right, so they would apologize to me and respect me very much. Every time I asked them to do their homework and practice the piano, they all performed very well. In the future, I may become a Chinese teacher, and this year with my children means a lot to me.

I even got the chance to bond with Grandma!

This summer, you took me to Disneyland to play with the children. I really enjoyed it. When Grandma took the children to summer camp, I chatted with Grandma every day, went shopping and bought food. It makes me feel like I’m in my own home. I really appreciate the way you treat me like your family. I appreciate all and hope kids have a healthy and happy life. I’m not a very expressive person, but at this point, I think I need to express bravely, I love you all very much. Thank you all for giving me an unforgettable year! I hope you all can have a happy life and sincerely hope you all right.

In the end, let’s keep in touch! I will miss you all.

XOXO,

Mathilda
