My favorite thing about being a LAR

I love being able to work with individuals from different cultures. The majority of the au pairs in my cluster are new to the program, so we are experiencing their journey together. It’s fun to hear what they do with each other individually, as well as to enjoy their company during planned Go Au Pair events. They are very brave to leave their family, friends and home to experience life in another country.

This is what I have discovered during my time as a LAR – there are many more similarities than there are differences.

It is an amazing journey! As the words say, “Life is all about chances. You might be safer not taking any. But playing it totally safe means you’re only existing. Not living.”

Why I love my job

My cluster is growing in the Reno, Nevada and nearby areas. We are actively recruiting for new families. Local families find a cultural childcare experience with Go Au Pair an incredible opportunity to teach their children tolerance, love and acceptance of all people and cultures, as well as being surprisingly affordable and flexible.

About me

My name is Deb Maijala, and I live in Reno, NV with my three cats. I moved to Nevada in 23 from San Jose, California. I love this state! There are so many fun things to do in Reno and the surrounding area. Reno is just next door to beautiful Lake Tahoe (my favorite place in the whole world!) and Donner Lake, another gorgeous mountain lake. During the summers, I spend as much time at Lake Tahoe as I can manage. I also love to take walks in the parks of Reno and Sparks, enjoy the festivals and musical events. In addition to being a Local Area Representative for Go Au Pair, I work at a non-profit that helps individuals with disabilities lead active, independent lives in the community
