What our Host Families love about the Au Pair program
Local Area Representative in Orlando
Debra Blanchard

The areas I serve in Florida
The Orlando/Central Florida territory stretches from Orlando/Kissimmee to the Cocoa Beach area, and to Daytona/Ormond Beaches and many small cities in between. From Orlando you can explore many interesting and fun activities, all within an hour’s drive. So MUCH to do and explore, including sporting events and music venues!!
I was a business teacher in a public high school for 10 years, where I interacted with young adults on their way to discover their life path. In a sense I was also a life coach. I have recently started a coaching business for women 50+.
In this Local Area Representative position, I also coach our au pairs to overcome any difficulties and assist them with having a wonderful cultural exchange experience with our host families.
I have lived in the central Florida area for many years and enjoy showing our au pairs the places that they may not even know about.
Currently Go Au Pair has 4 host families in the Orlando area but 5 au pairs! I plan to build up the number of wonderful families here in the Orlando/Central FL area that would like to experience the joy of a cultural exchange by having an au pair, from around the world, come stay for a year or two.
Some of my families have both parents enjoying their full-time careers. One is a single father. Everyone is very busy but feel very relieved to have such extraordinary young women providing excellent care to their children. Currently there are children ranging from age 1 to 12.
My au pairs have come from Columbia, Peru, El Salvador and 2 from Italy. What a wonderful experience for them and for their host families too!
Au Pair Cultural Activities
Au Pairs are required to attend a number of Cultural Activities with their Local Area Representative and nearby Au Pairs to make sure they experience the local community and culture during their stay.
Additional Resources for Families and Au Pairs in Orlando
In Florida, au pairs must possess a valid driver’s license and meet certain requirements IF driving is part of their duties.
International Driving Permit (IDP): It’s recommended that au pairs obtain an IDP before arriving in the US.
- Florida Driver’s License: Some Au pairs will need to get a Florida driver’s license as soon as possible after arrival.
- State Laws: Au pairs need to learn about Florida traffic laws, including right turn on red, school bus safety, and pedestrian crossings. And of course, possibly having to remember to drive on the correct side of the road!
Au Pairs need to complete their education requirement as part of their exchange program in the United States. Here are some places in Orlando they may be able to enroll.
UCF (University of Central FL) – One of the largest universities in the country
Au Pair Weekend in Miami
An Au Pair will need to get a Social Security # before getting a bank account and driver’s license. Go Au Pair will provide a welcome packet with social security information, on the Au Pairs arrival. We advise Au Pairs to wait 10 days after arrival to get their social security number. You can make an appointment at a social security office, closest to your home.
