My favorite thing about being a LAR

I love working with the Au Pairs who have traveled out of their own comfort zone to come to the United States providing excellent childcare, but also taking up the cultural aspect of family life in America and more. . I guide them through many unknown aspects they meet and try to open their eyes as to what would be good to take back to their lives in their home countries. Having had the opportunities I had world wide, I can share all their ups and downs while being an Au Pair.

I also love working with the Host Families. When I started out it was more on a peer level, but now after all those years I am dealing with them as if they were my own offspring, seeing many similarities with the life my children now lead as parents.

I have also had a cluster for a few years up in Boston and since 211 I am running the S. Florida group and I am very proud of the group here who are, despite of some distances, are a very coherent and fun group, fully understanding their responsibilities while also taking great advantage of being in the Sun Shine State!

Why I love my job

I started working with Au Pairs and Host Families in Washington DC after having lived there for 2 years. The fact that I was an Au Pair for 2 ½ years in my youth attracted me to the position and I have seen many, many Au Pairs and Families having very successful relationships turning out in real genuine friendships. I have the same experience with my host families’ children still, when I was an Au Pair in my youth!

About me

My name is Carolina Verhoef and was born and educated in the Netherlands.

I am a mother of now grown up children who are all Global Citizens as we have traveled as a family and lived and worked on 4 continents. I strongly believe in being a tolerant and productive member of our society, wherever that has taken me in the past and now since 25 years in the United States.
