My favorite thing about being a LAR

One of my favorite things about my job is planning monthly activities for the Au Pairs. Our past activities have included kayaking the Charles River, exploring Boston, walking the Freedom Trail, movies at the Hatch Shell, and cheering on the Red Sox at Fenway. This gives me a chance to get to know the Au Pairs personally. It also gives them an outing each month to socialize with each other as well. Twice a year we have activities for host families and au pairs to enjoy each other’s company. Our cluster is big enough that we have Au Pairs and families from all over the world! It is fun to see everyone interact and enjoy themselves at our events

Why I love my job

As a Boston LAR, I enjoy supporting families and seeing them connect on a personal level with their Au Pairs. I truly believe in the Au Pair program and the benefits from having someone care for your child in your own home. During the placement, I provide local support to the Au Pairs and the host family. Each month, I check in with the Au Pairs and the host families to make sure that things are going smoothly and schedules are working out for both parties. Throughout the placement, it is a pleasure to see how relationships are kindled and bonds are made between Au Pairs and host families.

About me

My name is Laura Haber and I absolutely love the city of Boston and all the amenities it brings. As South Boston’s LAR, I enjoy meeting and working with people from all over the world and introducing them to this beautiful city. I love to travel and have spent time exploring Europe and volunteering as a Social Worker in South Africa. Currently, I’m a work-at-home mom, but before staying home with my two children I earned my Masters in Social Work and became a Child and Family Therapist. My family and I moved to Boston in 214 and have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this historic city. I love backpacking the White Mountains, watching concerts in the park, walking along the Charles, and eating cannoli’s at Mike’s Pastry.
