Ukrainian Au Pairs
|
Ukraine is approximately the size of Texas and is the second
largest country in Europe.
There
is a large emphasis on education in Ukraine and over 90
percent of our Ukrainian Au Pairs placed in the U.S. either
have a college degree or were enrolled in college prior to
starting their
Au Pair
program.
Ukrainian is the official language but
Russian is also widely spoken. All of our Au Pairs from
Ukraine speak Ukrainian, Russian and English. It is common
to find Ukrainian Au Pairs who also speak a fourth language,
which is typically
German.
While about half of our Ukrainian Au Pairs in the U.S. have
experience with infants, all of these Au Pairs have
experience with children in the 5-10 year age group. Au
Pairs from Ukraine typically gain childcare experience
through babysitting and tutoring.

What
do Host Parents say about their Au Pairs from Ukraine?
|
Pam has hosted 6 Au Pairs through goAUPAIR. Pam's most
recent Au Pair, Anna, who is from Ukraine, just finished an
extension (2nd year) with her family.
How well did your Au Pair
assimilate into your home?
"Anna is a lovely young woman who assimilated easily into
our home."
What cultural differences did
you encounter?
"She is very quiet and follows directions in a precise
manner. I have the sense, however, that in the Ukraine,
independent thought is not encouraged much, so Anna is
reluctant to make decisions on her own. She places high
value on education and is extremely careful with money,
because life is much harder in the Ukraine than in the
United States."
Would you ever choose another Au Pair from Ukraine?
"Certainly. The choice of an Au Pair depends on the
individual, not the country."
