Filipino Au Pairs
|
The Philippines is located in Southeastern Asia and is made
up of 7,107 islands. The Philippines was once a Spanish
colony but
was
ceded to the U.S. prior to gaining independence. Tagalog and
English are both the official languages of the Philippines.
Because of this, Filipino Au Pairs currently in the U.S. were, on
average, given a ranking of 4 out of 5 in English prior to
their arrival.
Education has been a large focus of the Filipino government
since the 1980s. The Philippines currently has one of the
highest literacy rates in the world at 92 percent. Nearly all of
our Au Pairs from the Philippines currently placed in the
U.S. were either enrolled in college or college graduates
prior to their arrival.
Filipino Au Pairs have a wide variety of
child care
experience and the majority of Au Pairs from the Philippines
currently placed in the U.S. have experience with children
under the age of two.

What
do Host Parents say about their Au Pairs from the
Philippines?
|
Katherine has been a Host
Mom with goAUPAIR since 2006. Her Au Pair from the
Philippines, Carren, recently left her home after spending
two years with her family.
How well did your Au Pair assimilate into your home?
"Our Au Pair Carren assimilated extremely well to our home
and family. She was so loving and honest and devoted to her
job that she just fit right in immediately. She went out of
her way to make sure she understood everything we had
discussed about the children and never felt shy about asking
questions a second time to be sure she was doing things
properly. She was quiet, yet friendly and so in tune with
the children's needs from the first few weeks."
What cultural differences did you encounter?
"We didn't encounter many differences. The Philippines is an
extremely poor country, and so to find a big huge bed, extra
large TV and walk in closet in her bedroom came as a real
shock to her! But she adjusted just fine! She was very aware
of being a part of our family when we included her, yet also
respectful of our time alone as a family and would leave us
to our time together. It was a perfect situation for us."
Would you ever choose another Au Pair from the
Philippines?
"Would I ever choose another Au Pair from the
Philippines? YES....in fact I would try my hardest to
continue to choose Au Pairs from the Philippines. This was
our second great success story with girls from the country
and we just loved them. They really are so warm and loving
and such good caretakers. You just know that their hearts
are in it for the right reason, and that they are so excited
and grateful to be here in America. The job taking care of
the kids is their number one priority in being here. They
were respectful of their jobs, our house rules and just took
better care of the children than I could ever have hoped
for. I hope that all of you reading this consider an Au Pair
from the Philippines. I can guarantee you will be very happy
with your choice!" |
