Australian Au Pairs
|
Australia is one of the native English speaking countries we
recruit Au Pairs from. Au Pairs from Australia tend to have
provided child care for a wide range of different ages.
While all of our Australian Au Pairs currently placed in the
U.S. had experience with children in the 2-5 and 5-10 ages
groups prior to their arrival, over 90 percent had
experience caring for children over the age of 10.
Approximately half of our placed Australian Au Pairs had
experience with infants.
Australians drive on the left side of the road and citizens
may receive their driver’s license at 16 years old. Driving
is common in Australia and almost all of our Australian Au
Pairs have owned their own car. All of our Au Pairs from
Australia have a driver’s license.
Sports, such as Australian Rules Football (AFL), rugby,
tennis and cricket, are a big part of Australian culture.
All of our Au Pairs from Australia list sports as one of
their favorite activities. Australia’s coasts also provide
some of the best surfing in the world and several of our
Australian Au Pairs currently placed in the U.S. listed
surfing as one of their hobbies.

What
do Host Parents say about their Au Pairs from Australia?
|
Karen has been a Host Mom with goAUPAIR since 2007. Her
current Au Pair, Tenille, is from Australia and has been
with her family for 6 months.
How well did your Au Pair assimilate into your home?
"We've had a great experience with our Australian Au Pair.
She assimilated very easily as I think that the Australian
culture is very similar to the Southern California culture."
What cultural differences did you encounter?
"I imagine the toughest part for her was probably driving on
the right hand side of the road. However, she adjusted
quickly and without incident. She is a very good driver. She
says that it is not difficult to remember to stay on the
right because the steering wheel is on the left (which is
also different than in Australia)."
Would you ever choose another Au Pair from
Australia?
"We will certainly look for another Australian Au
Pair in the future. The fact that English is her first
language made the transition especially easy this time." |
