Providence Cluster Faves

Find out about RI Au Pairs' favorites, or tell us yours!

Hey locals! How long have you lived in Rhode Island, Connecticut or Massachusetts? We locals love our state, but we might be guilty of getting stuck in a rut. We have our own regular places to go and things we do and sometimes need some suggestions for new and different places or activities to try. Our new Au Pairs can always use some suggestions. Who better to make those suggestions than current Au Pairs?

Do you have some local favorites to share with us? At a recent Go Au Au Pair meeting (okay it was a pool party and there may have been margaritas), I asked Providence cluster Au Pairs to share some of their favorites with me. The girls who participated have been here 2 months, 5 months and 21 months. Their favorites will help future Au Pairs to experience even more success and meet more great people to help them practice their English.

Food is always a favorite topic of discussion. While some Au Pairs really like the diversity of American restaurants and would be happy anywhere, our veteran Au Pair suggests trying the delicious, handmade desserts from Providence’s Federal Hill bakery and cafe, Pastiche. After browsing their menu online, I am feeling an Au Pair event coming on...stayed tuned this fall!

Of course, with food, everyone has their preferences. Marce has attained one personal goal of becoming a vegetarian while she has been an Au Pair with Go Au Pair. Like our other Au Pair from Colombia, she finds the many protein options here in America superior to what she could obtain in her home country. Jenni is also loving peanut butter, her new favorite American food. America has some pretty unique foods too, and Jenni says clams is the weirdest she has dared try. Finally, who loves bacon? Well, so does Aude (and me too)!

Part of the cultural childcare experience also includes taking care of kids, being part of an American family, and taking college-level classes, in English! Read my next blog, which will share some of what Au Pairs love and what makes them struggle.
