If you have selected an international au pair outside of our program and
need a US designated au pair sponsor click here for information on our Pre-Match™
program.
Once we receive your completed application and application fees; the process of placing an au pair in your home is as follows:
- Your placement counselor will carefully review prospective au pair files that might meet your family’s requirements. These files will include copies of each au pair’s:
- Essay describing the au pair’s interests, background and family life.
- Letters of recommendation.
- Degrees or diplomas earned.
- You and your family can then select several au pairs that best meet your requirements.
- Call the au pairs you are most interested in and interview them via telephone.
- Once you have completed telephone interviews, call your placement counselor and discuss your au pair selection. Once your placement counselor has
forwarded your family information, you are then free to extend an au pair invitation to the au pair of your choice.
- You’re also to immediately provide your au pair with a written description of their 45 hour per week childcare and childcare related light housekeeping responsibilities—this is key to starting off on the right foot and helps avoid
misunderstandings in the future.
- Unlike other au pair sponsors, goAUPAIRâ
will continue to provide you with applications until you find the au pair that is just right for your family—it’s all part of our exclusive Mutual Match™
system—which ensures that you have a voice in your au pair choice!
- The au pair has final word on accepting your invitation—that’s why it’s a Mutual Match™
system! Once she/he accepts, goAUPAIRâ
will issue paperwork necessary to obtain a J-1 Exchange Visa and will make travel arrangements to get the au pair to your community.
- On your au pair’s arrival date, you’ll pick your au pair up at the airport—just as you would any member of your immediate family.
- You’ll be required to have an adult at home with the au pair for the first three days of her/his stay. This will help acquaint your au pair with your children, their schedules,
and your expectations. This also gives your au pair the time to feel rested and recover from any jet lag
will help them adjust to the natural feelings of home sickness.
- Shortly after your au pair’s arrival, your goAUPAIRâ
Local Area Representative (L.A.R.) will contact her/him and welcome them to the area and will schedule an initial visit. The L.A.R.’s visit will help orient both the family and au pair to the program and will help establish a good working relationship. The L.A.R. will also advise the au pair as to:
- How to obtain a local driver’s license.
- Educational opportunities that exist in your area.
- Opening a local bank account.
- The L.A.R. will be a source of continuing emotional and social support to the au pair by:
- Introducing her/him to other au pairs in the area.
- Helping your au pair adjust to American culture.
- You and your family can support your au pair and help ensure a great experience by:
- Encouraging your au pair to take full advantage of educational opportunities.
- Helping your au pair meet young people their own age in the community.
- Encouraging your au pair to participate in activities scheduled by the L.A.R.
- The L.A.R. will be a source of continuing support to your family by:
- Discussing any of your concerns or questions—at any time.
goAUPAIRâ
