Springtime is a Popular Time to Match

It’s that time of year when dandelions start popping up all over the place and tree limbs sprout flowers. The birds are flocking back into town and the school year is winding to an end.  In the midst of this springtime flurry, hundreds of Host Families are scouring Au Pair portals and reviewing profiles.
Because many Host Families plan the arrival of their Au Pairs around the beginning of the school year, spring is a popular time to begin the matching process. From start to finish matching with an Au Pair and getting them to the US takes a few months. Summertime Au Pair arrivals also gives Host Families the time they need to acclimate their Au Pair to their area before work schedules get too demanding.
While spring can be a time of great study and some trepidation for families who want to make the right match, the excitement really begins in the summer. The children will string balloons around their Au Pair’s room and color posters to welcome them, meanwhile Au Pairs across the globe prepare for their adventure in the US. All the springtime matching work and preparation turns into a reality in the summer when the Host Families and Au Pairs meet in person for the first time; this is when the real fun begins.

Spring is a great time to expand a family, and an au pair is a wonderful addition! It is amazing to think of everything a child could learn in their hours with an au pair over the summer. They may even learn a new language!

Spring is my favorite time. Kids will be out of school soon, so there are a lot of opportunities to spend time together, visit many places, learn something new, play outside, and have fun.

It is such an exciting time of year! I love the new flowers growing and all the planning going into the upcoming summer season! Here's hoping Rhode Island families discover the diversity and opportunity in the Au Pair Program! Teachers make great Host Moms, by the way, simply because we love learning already and it makes the kids love it too! They are such sponges and you never know what impact your au pair might make on your child!
