The Influence of Music

Music is a universal language. It connects human beings internationally as a form of communication understood by all.

It’s important for parents to be aware of the kinds of music their children are being exposed to and how it may affect them.

Music is highly stimulating to the brain. Recent studies have shown that music can even affect a fetus in the womb and it can hear and respond to it.

While school is out for the summer, it’s important to keep children’s’ brains stimulated. You may want to make a playlist on your iPod or mp3 player for your Au Pair to play for your children while you’re away.

Since many of our Au Pairs can drive, parents could consider enrolling their child in private music lessons or register them in a music class for the next school year.

Consider having your Au Pair take your children to the symphony. Many symphonies will have special concerts specifically for kids.

Also, to help broaden the scope of music your children hear, parents can have their Au Pair share appropriate music from their native country with the family.

Parents who want to learn more about the benefits of music and how it affects the body and brain may want to read “The Power of Music” by Elena Mannes.
