Heads up mothers and Au Pairs! According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), so far this year the number of children who have been reported to have whooping cough is nearly double the number of people who were infected this time last year. Yikes! Now we’re moving into a fall and winter season that hasn’t seen an
outbreak of this magnitude since 1959. The CDC wants us to listen for a cough that last about 20 to 30 seconds and is accompanied with a sucking in whoop sound. If your kids are whooping and not “just coughing” than get them to the doctor as soon as possible for the best treatment. Most infections are going to be seen in children under six months old and over the age of seven. In the meantime, if someone around you has a cough, keep your infants away from them and keep up on your children’s vaccinations.
