"Searching for an au pair is no easy feat. We were familiar with the process yet the search is a grueling task. My husband and I read countless profiles and watched an unimaginable number of audition videos. We scrolled the websites for hours in search of the perfect person to invite into our lives. Jenique’s profile was on the very last page of the agency’s website. She should have been the cover girl or the poster child. Still, we are grateful she was on the last page because otherwise she would have surely been taken up by another family. We went the distance to find her and she traveled the distance (literally) to join our family unit.
Jenique came to us, in December, from South Africa with zero experience in the snow. As if winter in the Midwest isn’t enough of an adjustment, she entered a strange house with strange people. Just after she arrived we began to experience one of the worst winters this city has ever seen. She hauled the kids outside to play in the snow despite temperatures that were as foreign as we were. Jenique started a snowball fight and built her very first snowman to which she gave her only scarf. The day she arrived, Jenique pulled our girls around the kitchen table in a ladybug wagon. The girls were instantly in love.."
