What Au Pairs Can and Can’t Do - Part 2
Au Pairs CAN help in the community but CAN’T watch other children or get another job:
Au Pairs can and are encouraged to serve and help in the community. Many of Go Au Pair’s Au Pairs use their free time to volunteer in cultural associations, charitable events and even dog shelters. In as much as Au Pairs are a great help in the community, they are not allowed to take care or be responsible for other children than their host children. It is a violation of U.S. Department of State regulations for Au Pairs to work outside of the Au Pair program.
Au Pairs CAN teach children a second language but CAN’T be deprived of English in the home:
The major difference between Au Pair Child Care and any other child care alternative is the unique cultural experience for the children and the family. Learning a new language can be part of that experience as long as the Au Pair is also given the opportunity to develop their English skill and experience cultural exchange in the home.
Au Pairs CAN drive children around but CAN’T become the family’s assistant:
Your Au Pair may drive in the U.S. for a variety of reasons like taking children to school, activities, or anything related to their care responsibilities. They can also drive for personal or social reasons. Au Pair can’t be required to drive the family around, to grocery shop for the entire family or for reasons which are only pertaining to the family and not the Au Pair.
