Go Au Pair's Local Area Rep featured at Au Pair Clearinghouse

Gloria Grabois, Go Au Pair’s Local Area Representative (LAR) in Central New Jersey and a 20-year veteran working with Host Families and Au Pairs, was recently interviewed by Au Pair Clearinghouse; the largest Au Pair agency review website on the internet. In this exclusive interview, Gloria talks about her experiences and what she’s learned about the cultural exchange program during her years working for as a LAR for Go Au Pair, as well as being a Host Mom for Au Pairs from 5 different countries!

Gloria talks about her strengths, the services she provides families and Au Pairs in the New Jersey region and the benefits of working with an agency like Go Au Pair. Gloria gives specific tips on a variety of topics and for one specific example on conflict resolution between families and Au pairs, she recommends: “my suggestion is communication, communication, communication. Families should make the time to speak with the au pair on a regular basis (…) I think that at the start it should be every week for the first month, and then every 2 weeks and after the 3rd month, once per month and of course whenever someone feels it is needed.”

Gloria was a Go Au Pair Host Mom for several years. Her first au pair arrived in June 1991, while her family was living in New York City. Because Gloria was always very welcoming to Au Pairs and their friends, her house became a gathering place for the girls in her area. Her many years of experience with the au pair program made her an ideal candidate to become a LAR in the area and when Go Au Pair offered her the position, she accepted it immediately.

When asked for advice for parents thinking about hosting an au pair, Gloria says that parents need to be aware that Au Pairs are very enthusiastic to come to the US and experience our way of life but need support and guidance to feel welcomed, “An au pair will be a part of the children's life for a year or more on a daily basis but hopefully at the end of their stay, as I have experienced, the Au Pair will be a part of their lives for many years to come.”

Go Au Pair careful selects our Local Area Representatives. We look for the most talented people who are committed improve our family’s experiences and we are thrilled to present stories of excellent work and dedication like Gloria’s.
