General Attitudes

South Africa is a mixture of many different cultures. The slow change from a minority to a majority rule has been difficult at times, but the majority of South Africans are working to accept coexistence and diversity.

“Our Au Pair assimilated very well. Since English is the first language in South Africa, we didn’t have any communication barriers. It also helped with the kids homework because she was able to understand everything.” – Host Mom

Sports

Sports are very important in South Africa. Cricket, rugby and soccer are the most popular sports. As the host of the most recent World Cup, South Africans welcomed the world and showed their support for their national team.

Diet

The diet in South Africa is primarily meat-based. On the weekend, braai (barbeques) are extremely common in South Africa. South Africa has also emerged as a major wine producer with a variety of different vineyards.

“Being an Au Pair is nothing what you expect it to be. It’s so much better. I want to have a career in child care and activities. Being in a different country and being able to work with kids is great. I have a fantastic family with great girls [who] make me feel like family and like I am home.” – South African Au Pair

In honor of our featured country, families who match with an out of country South African Au Pair in April will receive $100 off the program fees plus a $500 airfare discount!
