Swedish Au Pairs

English language education is compulsory in Sweden and all of our Au Pairs from Sweden currently placed in the U.S. received an English ranking of either 4 or 5 out of 5 prior to their arrival. Because most Swedish Au Pairs have studied English for many years their motivation to be an Au Pair in the U.S. is to learn more about American culture and experience life in a new country.

Most of our Swedish Au Pairs in the U.S. were 19-21 years old when they first arrived. Au Pairs from Sweden typically choose to participate in the program prior to starting college.

Au Pairs from Sweden tend to be very active and many of our Swedish Au Pairs list sports as one of their hobbies or interests. Common sports in Sweden include football and skiing; 90% of our Swedish Au Pairs placed in the U.S. knew how to ski prior to their arrival.

Callista is currently hosting her first Au Pair through Go Au Pair. Her Au Pair, Anna, is from Sweden.

How well did your Au Pair assimilate into your home?

"Anna has assimilated very well into our home. Sweden in many ways is like America so I think it was an easy transition for her. Also, we get along wonderfully so I bet this also has something to do with it. Driving is basically the same in America as it is in Sweden. Also, they have many of the same or similar foods as they do in Sweden. It is nice we have Ikea in America because Swedish Au Pairs can find some of the foods from Sweden there."

What cultural differences did you encounter?

"Not many. Again, Sweden is like America. Anna speaks very good English as they begin learning the language in 3rd grade. As I said above, the driving is very similar if not the same. They do eat much healthier than we do in America but we did not find that to be a problem as we eat pretty healthy. They have some different holidays but again we like to embrace those and do not find them to be differences we have to deal with."

Would you ever choose another Au Pair from Sweden?

"Yes. Our experience with Anna has been nothing short of wonderful so far. We find her to be a very loving person who is totally in love with our children. I don't think we could have asked for a better Au Pair."
