"Very well.  The fact that we share English as a primary language made the transition much easier! Although we had a to learn a few new kiwi words, for the most part, communication was never a problem.  This was a huge advantage during the early period when the Au Pair is getting to know the family and routines and new job, all at once."

What cultural differences did you encounter?

"Mostly just in learning from each other about different practices and cultural protocols that we each share.  Most importantly, our values and priorities for the children (discipline, rules of behavior, manners, etc.) were remarkably well aligned from the start.  We knew little about the heritage and geography of New Zealand and the entire family has enjoyed learning about it."
