Known as one of the friendliest and most tolerant nations in the world, the Netherlands offers Au Pairs a unique opportunity to experience daily life in Europe. In the Netherlands, you can visit one of the many art museums, tour the canals in Amsterdam and see landmarks like authentic windmills. For Au Pairs who do not speak another language, the Netherlands is one of the easiest countries to live in since most residents speak fluent English.

Au Pair Requirements

  • 18-25 years old
  • Previous child care experience as verified through references
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal background

Au Pairs that are most attractive to Host Families are able to drive, swim and do not smoke.

Au Pair Duties

As an Au Pair in the Netherlands, you are responsible for providing up to 30 hours of child care. Child care responsibilities can include activities such as meal preparation, baths, naps, general supervision, helping with homework and driving the children to school and activities.

As an Au Pair, you help around the house through light housekeeping. Examples of light housekeeping include laundry, tidying up rooms, making beds and vacuuming. Au Pairs are not responsible for heavy housework or the overall care of the home.

You are also required to complete an education course at a university in the Netherlands. The course needs to either be on Dutch, German or French language.

Au Pair Benefits

Host Families in the Netherlands provide their Au Pair with the following:
  • 3, 6, 9, or 12 month placement

You also receive training within the first 30 days of arrival. Au Pair activities are scheduled several times per year that Au Pairs may choose to attend.
