Belgium

Belgium is known as a modern and cosmopolitan European nation with a rich history and culture. Experience old-world Europe with a modern influence in historic Brussels or take in the sites, shopping and museums of Antwerp. Belgium is often one of the easiest transitions for American Au Pairs because English is common in larger cities and readily accessible public transportation. Belgians pride themselves in maintaining a warm family life, which you will experience while living as a member of the family.

Au Pair Requirements

• 18-26 years old
• Previous child care experience as verified through references
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Clean criminal background

Au Pairs that are most attractive to Host Families are able to drive, swim and do not smoke.

Au Pair Duties

As an Au Pair in Belgium, you are responsible for providing 30-35 hours of child care. Child care responsibilities can include activities such as meal preparation, baths, naps, general supervision, helping with homework and driving the children to school and activities.

As an Au Pair, you help around the house through light housekeeping. Examples of light housekeeping include laundry, tidying up rooms, making beds and vacuuming. You are not responsible for heavy housework or the overall care of the home.

You have the option to complete an education course at a school in Belgium. The course needs to either be on Dutch, German or French language. The course provides you with the opportunity to meet new friends and practice another language.

Au Pair Benefits

Your Host Family in Belgium provides you with the following:

• 3, 6, 9, or 12 month placement

• €450 pocket money per month
• 1 weeks of paid vacation per 6 months
• Health insurance
• Cost of the Au Pair’s language course
• Work permit costs

You also receive training within the first 30 days of arrival. Au Pair activities are scheduled several times per year so that Au Pairs may choose to attend.
